Director's Note

“When I was 13, before I even knew what OCD was, I found myself stuck in daily obsessive thoughts and compulsions that were eating away at my life. Through the years, I experienced ups and downs with my OCD.

By the fall of 2018 at age 28, my mental health had deteriorated so much that I was committed to a psych ward for 10 days because I was actively suicidal. After discharging from the hospital, I became a patient for 10 weeks at an intensive treatment center for OCD.

I came up with the idea for this documentary when I was in treatment. For the first time, I spoke with fellow residents who also wrestled with stigmatized, nontraditional types of OCD. My purpose and motivation as a filmmaker is to showcase stories that are hidden, so making this documentary became less of a want for me, and more of a must.

After completing treatment, I began the production of AN UNQUIET MIND to encourage people to speak openly about their personal experiences with stigmatized types of OCD.

By supporting our documentary, you are supporting an important modern-day movement to destigmatize mental health and save lives.”
